The federal government spent $8.2 million for subscriptions to the political news website Politico last year, an expense that will be eliminated, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday.
“I can confirm that the more than $8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayers’ dime will no longer be happening. The DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now,” Leavitt said during Tuesday’s press briefing.
Leavitt added that the DOGE initiative will be going “line by line when it comes to the federal government’s books,” adding the auditors will ask, “Do these receipts serve the interests of the American people?”
