Sec. Doug Collins to Newsmax: VA Aims to Put ‘Veterans First’

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs remains focused on President Donald Trump’s edict to provide an “efficient, forward-facing government function that helps the veteran first,” Secretary Doug Collins told Newsmax on Tuesday.

Collins appeared on “Wake Up America” and explained the VA is hiring for more than 300,000 mission-critical positions, and added that 1,400 non-mission critical staff cuts will result in more than $83 million in annual savings that will be redirected toward healthcare, benefits, and services for VA beneficiaries.

“Our people are going through making sure that we’re taking very measured actions to do what we need to do to follow what President Trump has said, and that is to make an efficient, forward-facing government function that helps the veteran first,” Collins told co-hosts Sharla McBride and Marc Lotter.
