Poland, at Odds With Belarus, Rushes on Border Wall

Poland seeks to finish strengthening its border wall with Belarus by summer in an attempt to close its border and curb what it views as “hybrid war” by Russia and Belarus through illegal migration, Polish Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Duszczyk told the Financial Times.

The move comes amid strained ties between Poland and Belarus, a close ally of Russia, after the Kremlin invaded Ukraine, with Warsaw accusing Belarus of bringing about migrant flows into Poland to pressure the EU over sanctions.

Additional reinforcements along the fortified 250-mile eastern border include installing night vision cameras and thermal imagers, as well as strengthening the five-meter steel fence constructed two years ago.
